FAQs

“Courage doesn’t happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life.”
― Shannon L. Alder

Do I really need therapy, or am I just stressed?

Many people wait to look for therapy until they are in a crisis. But therapy can also be beneficial if you're just looking for guidance and insight. Therapy can help with anxiety, relationships, identity, purpose, and major life transitions.

2

If you’re looking for therapy in the South Bay / San Jose area, the first session is a relaxed conversation. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but I will help you feel safe and be someone you can trust with the hard stuff.  We’ll talk about what’s been going on and what you’re hoping for. You don’t need to prepare anything.

3

What if I don't know what to say in therapy?

This is one of the most common concerns—especially for people starting therapy for the first time. I’ll guide the conversation so you don’t feel stuck or unsure.

4

How is therapy different from talking to a friend?

Therapy provides structured, confidential mental health support. Unlike talking to a friend, you’ll work with a trained therapist to understand patterns, manage anxiety, and build practical tools that support long-term change.

5

How long will therapy take?

It depends on your goals. Some clients seek short-term counseling for a specific issue, (you may be a good candidate for my Deep Dives) while others prefer ongoing therapy for continued support. Everyone is different and I will work at your pace to help you meet your goals.

6

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Therapy is private and confidential. I do not share your information without your written permission, except in rare safety situations required by law.

If you’re under 18 and/or someone else is paying for sessions, I can explain what information may be shared and how to maintain your privacy.

7

Do you work with college students and young adults?

Yes. I specialize in therapy for college students and young adults in the San Jose / Bay Area. I have a M.Ed. in Student Affairs and spent 13 years working on college campuses.  I often work with concerns related to anxiety, identity, academic pressure, relationships, and life transitions.  Because college students often attend schools outside CA, I am expanding my licensure to include many other states.  I am currently able to provide tele-health in South Carolina as well as throughout California.

8

Do you offer on-line therapy?

I offer both in-person and on-line therapy.  My office is in Campbell / San Jose / South Bay and I am licensed to see clients in South Carolina and throughout California, making it easy to access support wherever you are.

9

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance.  I am happy to give you a monthly super bill which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.  I recommend calling them to see what your out-of-network coverage is.
Private pay is $200 per session, and I offer sliding scale times when available.

How do I get started with therapy?

If you’re ready to start therapy in the San Jose / Bay Area, South Carolina, or anywhere in California, I recommend scheduling a free 15 minute session to meet and see if it feels like a good fit.  You can contact me at 408-634-2272, info@bbloom.net, or use the contact form on this site. I’ll follow up with next steps and available appointments.
